Performatividades do Segundo Plano
The exhibition Performatividades do Segundo Plano consists of two films (6 and 8 minutes) andeight 3x4 lenticular photos. Making a time arc that comes from the 1950s to nowadays, the ideais to realize through the images of newspaper, games, artificial intelligence, the life of the extras,that category of people that appears along with the cinema, according to Nicole Brenèz. When looking at these images carefully, is it possible to think of figurative peoples? Can these images from the past combined with the pretense futuristic AI help us to understand the Brazilian moment and the fake-news based election of the fascist Bolsonaro?

Yuri Firmeza is an artist and Film Professor at the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil. Master in Visual Poetry from the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo. He has participated in international film festivals and exhibitions, including 64th y 62nd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen / Alemania; the Biennale Jogja in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and the Bienal de São Paulo. Frederico Benevides is a doctoral student in Visual Languages at PPGAV / EBA / UFRJ and Master in Cinema and Audiovisual Studies at UFF, where he was substitute professor between 2015 and 2016. His works were shown at several festivals, such as Berlinale and Oberhausen. He edited films such as O Reflexo do Lago by Fernando Segtowick (Berlin, 2020), A Morte inhabits at night by Eduardo Morotó (Rotterdam, 2020), Sol Alegria by Tavinho Teixeira (Rotterdam 2018), Once Upon a Time Brasília by Adirley Queirós (Locarno 2017), and Tremor, by Ricardo Alves Júnior, awarded for best editing at the Brasília Festival. Performatividades do Segundo Plano is a continuation of a work in duo that maintains a research on projective images that begins with the meantime and continues to question the modulation power of the future, but also of the present and past that these narratives take. This time, we focused on the performance of the extras, two films rehearsals, and eight lenticular photos, where we get close to images that can be seen only as sophistication of the stratification that has always been placed between those who look and those who are looked at.

Luiz Garcia
Luiz Garcia trabalha toda a parte gráfica do projeto. Consideramos a pessoa perfeita para o trabalho, pois além de uma longa coleção de trabalhos gráficos onde a interface entre cinema, arte e teoria aparecem - Luiz é fundador do Risco Cinema, grupo dedicado a pensar e programar cinema experimental. A sua pesquisa de doutorado também é referência, voltada para imagens de arquivo ou found footage, que ele conceitua como "reemprego" de imagens.
Henrique Vaz
O encontro com Henrique foi um desses acasos que o trabalho desse campo de atividades proporciona. Em uma conversa com Mateus Alves (responsável pela trilha do Bacurau, de Juliano Dorneles e Kleber Mendonça Filho), surgiu a ponte com Henrique. Foi um grande encontro, poder efetivar um trabalho juntos, em aproximação com a complexidade do trabalho que Henrique desenvolve. Suas relações entre som e imagem e principalmente as relações internas às investigações sonoras são muito inspiradoras, apontando caminhos para lidar com o ambiente dos algoritmos, das máquinas, com organicidade.

Ouvir com Fones de Ouvido
Labour in a single shot é um trabalho de Harun Farocki e da Antje Ehmann, o último trabalho do Farocki, salvo engano. Eles organizaram oficinas em diversos países, compondo grupos de artistas/pesquisadores que tinham como tarefa filmar saídas de fábricas e planos únicos de relações de trabalho, conforme o nome da coleção especifica. O trabalho como um todo forma um painel muito rico e diverso em termos de imagens e situações. Fiz (Frederico Benevides) essa oficina no Rio de Janeiro e realizei alguns filmes, entre eles Building the City, com Cezar Migliorin, que acabou por abrir um portal para essas imagens projetivas e culminou, no encontro com Yuri, na feitura de Entretempos. Como já disse, vale investigar o site na sua variedade e o trabalho de Harun Farocki como um todo, referência preciosa para nós no Performatividades do Segundo Plano.

A Maldição Tropical

Sinopsis: A friction between two nation-building projects forged for Brazil in the mid-20th Century: one is a tropical imagery personified by the singer and actress Carmen Miranda; another one is a late modernism established in Brazil by the end of the 50's, beginning of the 60's, embodied in Rio de Janeiro by Flamengo Park.
JUSTIFICATION
A Maldição Tropical is of our interests, above all, due to the haunting and hyperbolic thought that has movement and moves with the film. From the work with the archive material – images and sound (beginning and command), the effects and treatments on images (saturations, animations, overlays) and the binomial Museum/mausoleum, via an archaeological, biographical, fictional and speculative reading of Carmen Miranda's corpus. These operations make us see two imaginaries of Brazil that, in the end, juxtapose the nation's projects.
