Abó danced so much that we were created and that the names of things had an essential value. And even if they were usurped, subdued, destroyed, exchanged, nothing could detract from their value. Because everything had been the fruit of a dream that had once traveled to the senses of Abó, and then to all the beings named, so that they could have value by their nature and not by what they could mean for others.

DIRECTOR’S COMMENT

'It's Good To Meet You' (N'sumande Tchalih Hudi) is evocative of elementary creatures, landscapes and timeless cosmic existences. In an attempt to re-memorialize the pre-colonial past in which the intergenerational relationship between the elders and the young was still a key aspect for the transmission of knowledge, experiences but above all the collective imagination based on fantastic mythology. In 'It's Good To Meet You' I intend to re-mythicize a dream worldview centered on the female, nuclear and burgeoning figure of African territory. The graphic stylism in the insertion of subtitles (in Portuguese and English) aims to highlight some words of strength mainly due to its symbolic function but also because visually shifts the level of literary writing to a more performative place that interests me to work. If we think that the writing of the film's text came spontaneously, having it recorded first in a room of my apartment in Rio de Janeiro and only then having it transcribed on paper. First in Guinea-Bissau Creole, then in English and at last in Portuguese. This is a film taken during trips we made between October and December 2018. The images were recorded in Itatiaia Natural Park (Rio de Janeiro) and the last ones in Camp 41 in the Amazon rainforest. The film also has as its mission to provoke a latent but at the same time, a distant desire. The desire to reinvent the History of the origin of the world and the formation of spaces, temporalities and existing beings in an immersion brought initially by a vivid lens and later by diluted images, almost silently covered in the verdant Amazonian immensity. The place of reflection and prelude to Human Existence is induced by the elementarity of the objects, I mean, of the beings present in the visual narrative of the film.
